Cheater!
It's no secret that Ava is not a fan of the "tummy-time". She stubbornly fights the "double-T" (code word) and still has yet to roll over. We've noticed recently that she's found a way to avoid those hated minutes of "double T" we try to enforce each day. Little stinker.

Enjoying the Dog Days of Summer
My mom and I took Ava to the baby pool on Saturday. We had a great time! Ava seemed pretty content to pass the afternoon in the cool water. She's a born beach bum.

Here she is kicking herself along in the pool. Notice how even when kicking she remains relaxed. Perhaps she's just motoring over to her mojito?

Fuzzy head

The light was just right this morning in Ava's room to capture her latest hairstyle. She's going for the fuzzy duckling look.

Reflections

Ava gets a big kick out of herself in the mirror. In fact, tonight she bonked her head on the mirror while lunging toward the reflection.

10 months old today!

Ava is 10 months old today! Mike and I can't believe how much she's changed over the last month. Not only has she said her first word (phrase? utterance? sound?) but she's also started to sign back to us. We sign "more?" when we're feeding her or giving her water from a cup. Now when we're feeding her and we say the word "more" she'll do the sign. We can't tell for sure if she's actually asking for more food or water but she gets some anyway! She's also started pointing at lights and fans when we ask where they are. In short, suddenly she's able to communicate to us that she understands much of what we're saying. It's exciting! I guess it's time to start spelling when we curse...or perhaps purchase some thick, woolly earmuffs. Think we can find them in July?

Uh-oh!
Today was really cool! Ava dropped a Cheerio and I said "uh-oh". She replied "Uh-oh!". I about fell out of my chair! I ran to get the camera and you'll see her trying to mimic me. It takes a couple of tries but she does it. A few hours later Mike said "uh-oh" and she replied "uh-oh" clear as a bell! Does that count as a first word?

Jury Duty
Today I had jury duty! I was very excited; I've wanted to be on a jury ever since mock trial in high school (yes, I was that cool). Today I got my big break but I didn't make it past the voir dire process. Total bummer. It was a civil case involving a car accident. I wasn't picked for the jury but I had an interesting experience in the courthouse. During the four-hour voir dire, I had the pleasure of having a court marshall escort me to a room to pump and stand guard outside the door! It was bizarre. Picture the difficulty you have trying to pee under pressure x 10! It was certainly a unique experience.

43 weeks old today!
The only problem with this mindful meditation class is that the better I do at the mindfulness, the worse I am at managing my life. Sure I'm happy, calm, and "in the moment" but I realize at the end of the day that I've forgotten to check my "to-do list" the requisite 106 times and therefore have forgotten to take the zebra photo (among other things)! Whoops! Better late than never, right? Here's a sleeping Ava with her zebra (note that she's cheating on Zebra with her new friend "Horsey").Below is a photo from Ava's first Fourth of July. The excitement was lost on her.
Finally, I can't resist uploading this photo. My aunt visited this weekend and brought a box of my cousin's clothes. Included was this gem. You may see this again in about 3 1/2 months so act surprised.

All 4 Teeth!

And here's what she does with them! She ate that entire slice of watermelon. I think it felt good on her gums. She'd sink her teeth in and just sit there for a minute soaking them in the cool fruit. Who knew that watermelon was a perfect teether?
