Meet the Super Family

We went to a Halloween party on Saturday night...
We got the inspiration from Ava's little swirl on top of her head.

She's getting so big!

Ava is tall! Where does she get that from? She's nearly growing out of her 0-3 month clothes! She's not even two months old yet! Part of it may be her cloth diapers which add significant amount of bulk but geez! She received 3-6 month clothes as gifts and I thought she'd never fit into them! Now I'm not sure she'll still fit into them by the end of the year! Check her out in this photo! She won't fit in here next week. The cat will be happy to take over full ownership.

7 weeks old today!

Sorry for not posting last week! We've had a busy week! I had to start working part-time from home last week. Our center does work mapping for disaster response so we were slammed dealing with wildfire stuff. I worked about six hours a day instead of the planned four. Luckily, Ava was very cooperative and napped plenty.

Mike was sick last week and then this weekend Ava and I both came down with his cold. She's doing better than me! I haven't been sick in years so I have a lot of complaining to catch up on. We've spent a lot of time standing in the bathroom with the shower running so the steam will open up our nasal passages. Thankfully, she's still been able to eat pretty well. She sounds pretty bad, poor thing. It actually is good that I am sick too because I can anticipate some of her needs. If I don't want to sleep flat on my back, she probably doesn't either. She slept great last night in her bouncy seat. Where can I get one of those?

6 weeks old today!

Generations

Yesterday Ava and I headed out to my parent's house to introduce her to my grandparents and aunt who were visiting. My grandparents just celebrated their 61st (!) wedding anniversary and still seem so much in love. It was so cool to have them meet Ava and to think that because of them she is here. She wouldn't be exactly who she is without them. Pretty cool. Here is baby girl with her great-grandparents, Jim and Betty! As you can see she warmed up to them pretty quickly: There are some more photos in the month 2 album on the right.

Another busy day!

Today Ava and I went to my doctors appointment, then to visit grandma, then to visit dad at work and finally, to introduce Ava to her future day care provider (insert lump in throat here).
Here's some highlights from the big day!

Here is the doctor that delivered Ava:

Hartsburg Pumpkin Festival

Ava and I made it out to the Hartsburg Pumpkin Festival this weekend. Hartsburg expected 55,000 visitors this weekend and after it rained all day Saturday we knew Sunday would be insane! It was! We arrived at about 9:30 and had a relaxing breakfast at Dottie's Cafe with Susan and her mom, Jo. After cruising the booths we met up with my mom and sister to more shopping and festival eating! Early arrival was key because by about noon it was getting too hot, sunny, and crowded for baby! I grabbed some pumpkin fudge to go with my kettle korn (for lunch!) and off we went.

Caught on Camera!

Finally we caught some smiles at Daddy on camera!

Happy Birthday Ava!

a little to the left, mom

Last night Ava and I attended an infant massage class. Massage is supposed to help develop motor skills, prevent colic and constipation, and foster bonding. Really, I just thought it would be a fun girls night out. Overall it was pretty hokey. The teacher was a was rubbing canola oil on a plastic doll and yelling instructions over the screaming babies in the class. She encouraged us to "ask permission of our babies" before commencing the rub-down. It was all quite amusing. Ava enjoyed seeing other babies. She cried when the mom next to us moved her baby out of Ava's field of vision. She calmed down when I scooted her over to look at another cutie. I also enjoyed seeing other babies and meeting other mommies. I'll try to get a photo next week of the mayhem.

Almost into the double digits!

We had a pediatrician appointment today. Ava weighed 9 lbs, 9 ounces. I'm also happy to report that contrary to what the mean pediatrician told me in the hospital, I CAN eat peanut butter (a.k.a. sweet nectar of the gods) while breastfeeding. She said that unless we have a strong family history of PB allergies (we don't) then I can go ahead and eat a little and see how she does. This news came just hours after having soy-nut butter on my toast. Yes, it is just as disgusting as it sounds. I have also been enjoying almond butter which isn't bad but costs about $8 a jar! If anyone has any use for soy-nut butter let me know! I don't think I'll be needing it anymore.

3 weeks old today!

Ava is three weeks old already. Here she is with her zebra, note that she is sans cord stump! It fell off Friday. She had her first real bath on Saturday (she wasn't a fan). This morning I tried to capture Ava smiling. The photos are terrible quality because I didn't want to break eye contact with her to take the photo. I was just holding the camera off to the side and hoping I got something. The first photo was a big grin, the second was the after glow of a great smile. We'll get a good photo eventually.
